Google message, 9to5 Google (via APKMirror ) allows you to get closer to end-to-end encryption for RCS. Rich Communication Services (RCS) is the successor to SMS messaging and performs the functions of most other text messaging services, but lacks end-to-end encryption for apps like Signal and iMessage. Its widespread adoption was a bit confusing, but major US cellular operators announced that they would offer RCS in 2020 by the end of last year.
Google announced RCS Chat in 2018 as Android's main text messaging platform and in November. I actually deployed it to US users.
Google message v. The internal build of 6.2 has a few lines of code that provide clues to future features of the app, including 12 new strings representing encryption, according to the analysis of 9to5 Google . . There is not enough information to determine whether the sender and recipient of the text in the message should use the app to enforce end-to-end encryption. The code update suggests a setting that allows users to decide whether to give other Android apps that can access the message permission to view the encrypted message.
There is no way to know if and when Google will provide end-to-end encryption. However, it is likely to happen because the company previously said it was working on it.
