Sitting in a room that looks more like a spaceship than a studio, film composer Tom Holkenborg (also known as Junkie XL) tells the story of when he first heard his music in the movie. Blood will pour out of the blade . “This is the track for my first album,” he says. "It's a very aggressive break beat track and it plays when all the blood comes out of the ceiling." The track worked so well that "[movie scoring] was actually interested in pursuing himself."

He takes blockbuster action movies to Hollywood, including Deadpool Mad Max: Fury Road Tom Raider Mortal Engines and Alita: Battle Angel . Now he is scoring the upcoming movie Terminator: Dark Fate . Holkenborg's style is completely out of the golden age of orchestral cinema, combining everything from hardware analog synthesizers, digital workstations and classic amplifiers to Frankensteined hand-made instruments and a shiny Eurorack module that fills the entire wall of his studio.
